What did you miss?

Helen George has revealed her Call The Midwife and The King And I roles have strengthened her confidence as a woman.

The actor has been playing Nurse Trixie in the East End-set drama since 2012 and is playing Anna in a production of The King And I.

Appearing on ITV’s Lorraine, she shared that both parts had had a big impact on her.

What, how, and why?

Host Ranvir Singh, who was standing in for regular presenter Lorraine Kelly, said: “Trixie is an incredible character that has such a warm place in everyone’s heart but playing Anna has also helped you become more confident as a woman in the real world, as a feminist almost?”

“Yes I think both parts,” George replied.

“I have been really lucky with both of them.

“And I think it has coincided with the MeToo movement and a strength for women at the moment.”

The star, 39, went on: “And I think it comes with age as well, you get the confidence to stand up for other women.

“I remember being younger, a teenager, when men would approach you on the Tube or whatever and I always really loved it when the women would stand up for you and say, ‘Hang on, actually, don’t speak to her like that’.

“And I think we all have a responsibility to be like that with each other.”

What else did Helen George say?

George also opened up about her costumes in The King And I, saying she called one giant blue ballgown “The Beast” because of its size.

“She is a beast!” she said.

“It takes about five people,” George added of getting dressed in the outfit.

She said the dress was “so heavy”, adding: “I lost so much weight doing this!”.
