A Long Melford brewery has developed a new one-off charity beer in support of a local music festival, and are asking residents for help with its name.

Nethergate Brewery has teamed up with Penny Wilby, owner of the bestofSudbury marketing agency, to launch a special beer supporting the Willow Foundation and LeeStock Music Festival.

The new brew, a light golden beer packed with hops and at 4.1% ABV, was crafted by Penny Wilby and Nethergate's head brewer Ian Carson.

It marks the sixth collaboration with Nethergate Brewery for LeeStock.

Ian Carson, head brewer at Nethergate, said: "Working with Penny is always fun and enjoyable, but more importantly, we've created a beer that will raise lots of money for a great charity and a fantastic local event.

"The beer, under Penny's watchful eye and love for hops, is going to be a full-bodied, hoppy golden delight.

"Thank you to Penny and Leestock for allowing Nethergate to brew again for the festival and for cleaning my mash tun to an as new condition."

The beer is set to be launched on Friday, May 10 for tasting and purchase at Nethergate's tap room.

Some 4,300 pints have been produced, with the brewery donating a portion of the beer to be sold at the festival, as well as making donations from the sales at their usual pubs across the region to the Willow Foundation and LeeStock.

The beer has not yet got a name and the brewery is reaching out to the community to choose one.

In the past, winning beer names have included Golden Willow, Lee, Stock and Two Amber Barrels and LeeStocked.

To enter the competition and to be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets for this year’s festival, email sudbury@thebestof.co.uk.

LeeStock Music Festival is being held at Kentwell Hall, Long Melford on May 25 and 26 and raises money for the Willow Foundation, which organises special days out for seriously ill young adults.
