Argylle star Henry Cavill has addressed his unique hair transformation in the upcoming spy thriller.

The former Superman actor is set to appear opposite Dua Lipa and Bryce Dallas Howard in the film, as the titular Agent Argylle.

As part of Cavill's physical transformation for the role, the first trailer for the film unveiled a striking flat-top haircut for the actor.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Cavill has given his take on the 'do, and revealed that it was director Matthew Vaughn's (Kingsman: The Secret Service) idea.

"That was actually Matthew's pitch, his signature style," Cavill revealed.

"I wanted to have fun with it. Matthew said, 'Look, this guy's going to have a particular look and you've got to trust me.' And I did! That's the kind of thing I was looking for. I'm glad I did it."

Argylle is set to be a genre-and-reality-bending thriller that follows author Elly Conway (Dallas Howard) as the plots of her best-selling spy novels (centred on Agent Argylle) begin to mirror real life.

Joining Cavill, Lipa and Dallas Howard on the cast are Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Sofia Boutella, Rob Delaney and Jing Lusi.

Vaughn has previously teased that Argylle will, "reinvent the spy genre".

"I'm thrilled to team with Apple and bring the most compelling spy thriller I've ever read to the only streaming service that can create a franchise of this scale and quality for global audiences to experience," he said, speaking about the film which is based on an unpublished novel by the real life Elly Conway.

"When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming's books of the '50s. This is going to reinvent the spy genre."

Argylle is set to premiere in cinemas globally on February 2, 2024, before being released worldwide on Apple TV+.
