Attention motorsports fans, F1 Academy is officially set to get its own Netflix docu-series. And the good news? We can expect to see it on our screens next year. Oh, and the even better news? Reese Witherspoon's production company Hello Sunshine is producing the whole series. Seriously, could our day get any better?

Following the success of Netflix's docu-series Formula 1: Drive To Survive, which so far has had six seasons and given fans unparalleled access to the world of F1, it's now time to turn our attention to the women of F1, with this new series.

Just as excited as us? Here's what you need to know about the new series.

What is F1 Academy?

For the uninitiated (excuse me but where have you been?) F1 Academy is a female only single seater racing championship, created under the umbrella of Formula 1 with the goal of developing and preparing young female drivers to move into the higher divisions.

It's headed up by the icon that is Susie Wolff, MBE, and had it's inaugural season in 2023.

Now it's back for another year and sees the competition take place across seven circuits of the F1 calendar. There are currently 17 drivers and five teams competing in this year's competition.

When was the F1 Academy series confirmed?

On 3rd May 2024 it was confirmed Netflix would be creating a series similar to Drive To Survive based on F1 Academy.

It's expected to dig into the drama involved on track, as well as delving into the personal lives of the drivers off the track, and discussing their drive (pardon the pun) to break barriers in an often male dominated sport.

Susie Wolff, MBE, the managing director of F1 Academy said of the exciting news, "We want to be the rocket fuel that drives female participation in our sport, both on and off the track. To have the F1 ACADEMY docuseries launch globally with Netflix is not just a huge step forward in visibility for our mission, but also a resounding statement about the momentum and demand for women’s sport.

"We want to inspire and empower the next generation of young women, and Netflix will open up F1 ACADEMY to a global audience of existing and future fans."

The series is being produced by Reese Witherspoon's production company Hello Sunshine, and she expressed her enthusiasm for changing the narrative around the sport, " We started Hello Sunshine to change the narrative for women, and Susie Wolff and F1 ACADEMY are doing just that by creating new opportunities in the thrilling world of motorsport.

"As these dynamic and fearless drivers break barriers behind the wheel, we are excited to partner with Netflix to tell the stories of these powerhouse leaders. What we know is that when we put women at the centre, people show up to watch."

When can we expect the series to land on Netflix?

So far all we've been told is the series will be arriving at *some point* in 2025.

Given the series will be following the 2024 season which doesn't wrap up until 8th December later this year with the last race at the Yas Marina circuit, and they'll then have to edit and potentially do interviews for the series, we'd be surprised to see it at the beginning of 2025.

But we're keeping our fingers crossed for an early in the year release date.

Who will star in the series?

As of yet there's been no official confirmation which drivers are going to be featured in the series, although we would hope we'll get to see all the drivers speak at some point and of course that Susie Wolff will make a few appearances.
