'He's just walked past him': Newcastle handed valuable Man United insight for Old Trafford showdown

Having already beaten Manchester United twice already this season, Newcastle United perhaps don't need any lessons on how to get the better of Erik ten Hag's side. But ahead of next month's potentially decisive Old Trafford showdown, Eddie Howe and Co will no doubt have taken note of more criticism of the Red Devils this weekend.

Newcastle face Man United on May 15 - their penultimate game of the season - with both sides looking to secure sixth place in the Premier League table. Before then, Newcastle have to face Burnley away and Brighton at St James' Park, while Man United go to Crystal Palace and host title contenders Arsenal.

Much could rest on that game at Old Trafford, but Howe's men know they have already won there this season, coming away with a comfortable 3-0 Carabao Cup victory in November. They also won the return Premier League fixture 1-0 in December thanks to Anthony Gordon's winner, and so will head to the North West in confidence.

Ten Hag's side were held to a 1-1 draw by second-bottom Burnley on Saturday, at the same time that the Magpies were romping to a 5-1 victory over Sheffield United to relegate the Blades back to the Championship. And the Match of the Day pundits didn't hold back when it came to highlighting some issues in the Manchester United midfield.

After watching a clip involving Casemiro and Burnley's Sander Berge, former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright was left shocked at the way the Brazilian was exposed, offering Newcastle valuable insight.

"This is how easily you can get past their midfield," Wright said. "This is Berge with Casemiro, now he's just got to stop and not let him come through and he's just walked past him. I think they have been very unlucky Burnley. They could have won this game with better finishing."
