An award-winning Essex pub in Hullbridge has been described as one of Essex’s hidden gems. Overlooking the River Crouch, The Anchor Pub and Restaurant definitely has the ‘wow-factor’, as guests can enjoy a top notch plate of fine dining, while taking in the spectacular views across Essex’s very own Riviera.

With tables indoors, that look out across the water through floor to ceiling windows, and a large garden and decking area, you cannot miss the flowing waters pitted against the stunning, undulating Essex countryside. You can actually sit and watch the ships go by, as three yacht clubs nearby sail along the river.

You can even take in the stars at night, without feeling a chill. Lining along the river, The Anchor’s OakPods offer “an intimate private dining experience in your own personal bubble” according to their website. You can really make the space your own with in-pod temperature controls, access to an integrated music system, and a ‘call for service’ button, meaning you can have your own privacy while looking up into space.

Caroline F gave the pub five stars on TripAdvisor, saying “We are regular customers at The Anchor and have dined in every area - the garden area outside, the oak pods, the restaurant and simply just for drinks. Their food has always been of a high standard and impeccable service and our visit on Saturday afternoon again you smashed it!

"We were intrigued to try their new menu. I had the roast lamb which was simply divine. It came with a Greek side salad with homemade dips - tzatziki and hummus. It was cooked to perfection. My partner had the fish and chips which were fresh and crispy, as always. The restaurant was well staffed and polite, welcoming and attentive. Service was excellent. Highly recommend all dining areas and casual riverside drinking at this restaurant.

While David N wrote “This was my first visit here having overheard a conversation saying you absolutely must go there. I was not disappointed. The location with beautiful gardens overlooking the river Crouch justifies the title of the Essex Riviera: the food is quite superb and varied, and the service is friendly, warm and welcoming. I have added a new venue to my go-to list! Do go there, you will love it!”
