Banged Up line-up: Full list of celebrities in Channel 4 reality show
An ex-EastEnder, a former kids TV presenter and a shamed Tory MP are among the stars getting banged up in a real prison in the name of entertainment.
Former EastEnders star Sid Owen is among the celebrity contestants who will be serving time at His Majesty's pleasure for the new Channel 4 show Banged Up - alongside real ex-convicts.
This new reality series will be filmed at HMP Shrewsbury, a real-life decommissioned jail, ruled over by a former prison governor.
Six celebrities will be locked up behind bars with a variety of reformed criminals who have all served actual sentences for serious crimes and have agreed to return to prison for the series.
Channel 4 Head of Documentaries Alisa Pomeroy said: "We've always wanted to rig a prison with cameras at C4, and this series comes as close as possible, allowing us to explore some of the big questions about the UK prison system and whether it works.”
The TV inmates will be overseen by former prison officers and live by current UK prison rules for eight days in a four-part constructed reality series.
The celebrity prisoners - who will have the chance to talk to their cellmates about their criminal past and experience of the justice system - include a comedy actor, a former kids TV presenter and a Tory MP.
Executive producer Tim Whitwell said: “For the first time, we have rigged a prison to find out what really happens in the cells after bang up. This series aims to enthral and entertain, whilst kickstarting a national debate about crime and punishment.”
