Holby City star Laila Rouass is making her grand return to the hospital drama next week, reprising her role of cardiothoracic surgeon (and Jac Naylor's nemesis) Sahira Shah after almost a decade away.

Obviously the show is much different at the moment, with social distancing and coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols in place.

One thing they tend to do is have the actors' real-life partners act as body doubles for other characters in the close-contact scenes, but Laila's other half, snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan, was hilariously turned down.

Appearing on today's (February 6) Saturday Kitchen, the actress said: "It's so funny. What happens now is if you've got to touch somebody, like a patient, you've got to know them, they've got to be in your bubble.

"So they bring in somebody that's in your bubble and just cut away. So I was like 'oh yeah Ronnie can come' and they looked at his pictures and they said 'no no, he's just too hairy – we're never going to be able to match them'.

"So he didn't come in in the end. I think it would have been fun to have him as a supporting artist. I think it's the Italian [in him]."

We think they could easily write in a scene in which Ronnie O'Sullivan ends up in Holby with a snooker-related injury for them to work together in the future.

Holby City continues on Wednesday, February 10 at 8.20pm on BBC One.
