Holby City doctor Nicky McKendrick will make a life-changing decision tonight (July 14) in the wake of her devastating health scare.
Nicky (Belinda Owusu) is recuperating in hospital when we catch up with her in Tuesday night's episode, having suffered a heart attack in last week's shocking scenes.
As we've already revealed, tonight's scenes will span a timescale of several weeks, giving the audience a chance to watch Nicky's recovery – and the difficult decisions she has to make through the course of it.
With Nicky's overbearing mum Tracey keen to keep a close eye on her daughter, she unwittingly ends up becoming more of a hindrance than a help.
Having moved in with Nicky, Chloe and Cameron, Tracey's overbearing presence soon causes a rift between the trio – leaving Nicky torn between her mum and her friends.
Having sided with Tracey, Nicky focuses her efforts on returning to work; a decision which her boss Jac is not entirely behind.
Although Nicky is desperate to get back to the job she loves, she is left feeling frustrated by Jac's repeated insistence that it's not a good idea.
Determined to put Nicky's health first, Jac urges her to think about the most stressful aspect of life and whether it's worth dying for.
Tracey is also adamant that the root of Nicky's stress begins at the hospital, but it soon becomes apparent that might not actually be the case.
As Nicky starts to reassess what she really needs in her life, she starts to wonder if she's cut out for such a challenging job after all.
By the end of the episode, Nicky has reached a final decision, but what is it? And what will it mean for her future?
