Yahoo News Holby City's Sharon D Clarke to lead Channel 5 detective series Ellis
Holby City star Sharon D Clarke is set to lead a brand new detective series on Channel 5.
The actress, who played Lola Griffin on the medical soap, will star in Ellis, which is due to make its debut later this year.
The show focuses on Clarke's tenacious cop DCI Ellis, who is sent in to sort out failing investigations alongside her right-hand man DS Harper (played by Outlander's Andrew Gower).

In each of the show's three episodes, Ellis arrives at a different police station, where she must win over the local detectives and immerse herself in the cases.
Ellis is used to being dismissed and overlooked as a Black female cop, though she is a first-class murder detective who also has a deep determination for justice as well as compassion.
The series is also set to stream on Acorn TV, and has been written by Death in Paradise's Paul Logue and Nautilus' Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre.

Paramount UK’s deputy chief content officer Sebastian Cardwell added: “Ellis is a brilliant addition to our scripted slate, and we are thrilled to be working with the teams at Acorn TV and Company Pictures on this gripping new series. I can’t wait to see the incredible Sharon D Clarke bring DCI Ellis to life.”
As well as Holby, Clarke has also appeared in Doctor Who in the role of Grace O'Brien, and is also a notable stage actress, having won three Laurence Olivier Awards and been nominated for a Tony Award.
Ellis will air later this year on Channel 5 and Acorn TV.
