Hollyoaks to air return for Grace Black this spring

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Tamara Wall has returned to filming – less than a year after exiting her role as Grace Black.

The popular cast member has been spotted in a new trailer for the show, which had its TV premiere on E4 this weekend.

Show bosses have not yet given the trailer an official release on Hollyoaks' social channels, but eagle-eyed fans spotted footage of Grace appearing in prison-based scenes.

In upcoming episodes, Freddie Roscoe returns to the village to help Mercedes McQueen tackle a dangerous new feud with Warren Fox.

Tensions rise as Freddie and Warren come face-to-face again, but it appears that this isn't Freddie's only reason for coming back.

The trailer shows Freddie take a mysterious phone call, telling the person on the other end: "It's time to move to the next stage of the plan."

Freddie then pays a visit to Grace in jail for what's sure to be a revealing conversation about his hidden agenda.

Last summer, Grace was jailed after taking the full blame for the ill-fated heist plan she took part in alongside Cindy Cunningham, Zara Morgan and Damon Kinsella. Fans saw a final glimpse of the character in prison scenes in July 2023.

Digital Spy understands that Tamara returned to filming at Hollyoaks earlier this year and Grace's comeback will be a major spring storyline for the soap.

Last year, Tamara confirmed that she was axed from the show rather than making the decision to leave.

She told OK Magazine at the time: "It's absolutely devastating. When I got told, I bawled my eyes out for three days, I was so upset – it's been the best time of my life.

"It wasn't my decision, but I understand. It's the name of the game, and Grace was going to get her comeuppance at some point. In the end, she probably deserved it. But I'm sure she'll find her way out eventually, she'll be back."

On the decision not to kill off Grace, Tamara added: "There's part of me that wants the big, dramatic exit of being killed off. But there's too much of me that loves that they've kept the door open.

"I can't tell you how lovely everyone was when people found out I was leaving, they were gobsmacked. They were really sad and that made me really happy! It's a nice feeling to know you'll be missed."

While Grace's departure was intended as permanent at the time, Hollyoaks has since undergone leadership changes and a shift in direction, which has included bringing back familiar faces.

The show recently appointed Hannah Cheers as its permanent executive producer, ahead of cutting back from five episodes a week to three from this September.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
