Hollyoaks begins Romeo Nightingale exit story

Hollyoaks spoilers follow from Friday's episode on Channel 4 streaming, which doesn't air on E4 until Monday.

Tonight's (March 8) Hollyoaks streaming episode saw Romeo Nightingale's anticipated exit storyline begin.

It was revealed last month that Owen Warner would be leaving the show, after six years playing Romeo.

The character is currently serving a prison sentence for the murder of his girlfriend Rayne Royce, but a recent near-fatal stabbing has left now him in hospital.

Tonight's episode saw Peri become concerned as she sees Romeo being wheeled into the hospital after surgery. "Kane stabbed me," Romeo revealed.

"Kane confronted me in the hallway. Him and his mates, they trapped me. Blocked me in and then he stabbed me," he explained, to which Peri asked: "Why would he do that?"

Romeo protected James by not revealing the real reason behind's Kane anger. Romeo's dad notably set Kane up for Ella Richardson's tragic death, which was actually caused by Ste's reckless driving.

"As soon I go back to that prison, as soon as I set foot in there, I'm dead," Romeo then said.

Fearing for her boyfriend's life, Peri blackmails James into helping Romeo escape from the hospital. James reluctantly agrees and drugs the guard.

As news of the guard's condition travels, police quickly storm the building, with Romeo setting the fire alarm off in the hopes of distracting them.

With law enforcement covering all the exits, Romeo is unable to meet Peri and James at the back door, so disguises himself and exits through the front, before jumping into the front seat of an empty taxi.

An oblivious Dilly and Prince then get into the back, asking to go to Harcourt Hall. "I promise you now, if I ever see that Romeo Nightingale again, he is a dead man," said Prince.

Will Romeo be able to escape undiscovered?

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
