Hollyoaks star Annabelle Davis has opened up about the fan reaction to the Rayne Royce storyline.

Social media influencer Rayne (Jemma Donovan) has been causing quite a stir since her arrival in the village earlier this year, with the latest scenes set to see a shock accusation made against Prince McQueen (Malique Thompson-Dwyer).

Annabelle, who plays Rayne's best friend Lacey Lloyd, has admitted that fans "really hate" Rayne, praising co-star Jemma for her performance.

"The fan reaction is a testament to Jemma’s performance. People really hate Rayne," she said. "But I’ve noticed they are equally as confused as to why Lacey is still friends with her.

"Honestly at times I was too. Is this the final straw for her? Surely now she’s had enough? But no, because she really does love Rayne."

Speaking further about filming with her co-stars, Annabelle admitted it has been "great", elaborating: "They’re all so fun to work with. It’s a very cool dynamic, several characters with different careers, ambitions, interests all under the same roof, all trying to figure life out.

"There’s fun but there’s a lot of heart there too. It’s a difficult time in your life to navigate but they’ve got each other’s backs."

Annabelle previously spoke about why Lacey has remained loyal to Rayne despite her lies, explaining: "They've grown up together, family friends, so Rayne is more like a sister to Lacey. It's the unconditional love for someone that helps you always see the good in them.

"However, Lacey is very aware Rayne needs help, and of the damage she is inflicting on others. Rather than cut her out, she wants to help her, fix her."
