Hollyoaks star Joe Tracini has opened up about a drug addiction he "thought would kill him before he turned 25".

The actor played Dennis Savage on the Channel 4 soap from 2011 to 2018 and has been vocal about his borderline personality disorder and mental health problems in the past.

Posting to Twitter on Sunday (July 19), Joe shared a video of himself recalling his 24th birthday and his belief that day that he wouldn't live to see his next birthday.

After living on a diet of "drugs, wafer thin ham and drugs", Joe recalled a bowel incident inside a supermarket that "convinced" him he would die prematurely.

"When I was 24, I was a massive drug addict and I lived on a diet exclusively of drugs, wafer thin ham and drugs," Joe said.

"On my 24th birthday I went to get drugs and then to Waitrose to get the wafer thin ham and while I was in there, I farted and fully shat myself... I just stood there and I thought 'this is it, you're gonna die'.

"I was literally dying inside and I was convinced on that day I'd be dead before my 25th birthday. "

Now 32, Joe ended the video on a positive note, adding: "My point is that things change.

"Not necessarily always for the better but I was convinced I was going to die before I was 25. Today I am 32. I am not dead [and] I am eight years clean."

Hollyoaks airs on Channel 4 and E4.
