Hollyoaks star teases "amazing" storylines after unexpected comeback

Huge Hollyoaks spoilers follow from Monday's hour-long stunt episode (January 15), which is available to watch now on Channel 4 Streaming. This episode does not air on E4 until Tuesday (January 16).

Hollyoaks star Nadine Mulkerrin has shared more details of Cleo McQueen's future following her surprise return to the show.

Cleo made a comeback in the soap's hour-long stunt episode, which was released on Channel 4 Streaming on Monday evening (January 15).

The popular character was one of the familiar faces caught up in a shock road disaster involving four different vehicles. She was travelling with family members Myra and Theresa.

Speaking about her return for the first time, Nadine commented: "I am so happy to be back in the world of Hollyoaks being Cleo. I feel re-energised and super excited for all the amazing storylines coming my way.

"It's an explosive entrance back, causing up a storm for Leela and Joel. Also bringing in with me some new interesting characters (Abe). I have missed it, I'm home!"

She added: "The fans can expect some unfinished business between Cleo and Joel, and a new mysterious man for Cleo who has a few red flags!"

Nadine bowed out from Hollyoaks in mid-2022 when she was expecting her second child. She clarified at the time that it was a permanent exit rather than maternity leave.

Late last year, Nadine entered talks with the Channel 4 soap's new bosses and agreed to make a comeback.

The show is now lining up a major love triangle storyline involving Cleo, Joel and Leela Lomax.

Hollyoaks' co-executive producer Hannah Cheers recently told Digital Spy and other press: "We love Joel, Leela and Cleo. Kirsty-Leigh [Porter, who plays Leela], Nadine and Rory [Douglas-Speed, who plays Joel] are stunning performers and they have a really rare ability to connect to an audience in a relatable away.

"All three of those characters are the 'every girl' and 'every boy'. It was such an amazing opportunity to take the dynamic of Joel and Leela, which has been really popular, and then of course just go: 'Boom! But what happens when the love of your life comes back?'

"That is another big headline story that throws us into the next year."

Hollyoaks' hour-long special is available to watch now on Channel 4 Streaming.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
