Hollywood reacts as Terry Gilliam causes uproar with MeToo remarks: 'Who did he have to spend a night with to get his career?'

Film director Terry Gilliam is being criticised for his candid remarks on the Harvey Weinstein scandal to have rocked Hollywood in the past year.

The Monty Python star claimed that some women used the disgraced film producer – whom he branded a “monster” – to further their careers.

“Weinstein was exposed because he is an asshole and he made so many enemies,“ the 77-year-old told AFP. ”It is a world of victims. I think some people did very well out of meeting with Harvey and others didn’t. The ones who did knew what they were doing. These are adults, we are talking about adults with a lot of ambition.

“Harvey opened the door for a few people, a night with Harvey – that’s the price you pay. Some people paid the price, other people suffered from it.”

Gilliam faced even more of a backlash after his views on the “mob rule” of the #MeToo movement for which he believes Matt Damon was a victim.

“I feel sorry for someone like Matt Damon, who is a decent human being He came out and said all men are not rapists, and he got beaten to death.

“The mob is out there, they are carrying their torches and they are going to burn down Frankenstein’s castle,”

Twitter was awash with criticism against Gilliam’s views with several notable figures of Hollywood – including Sarah Silverman and filmmaker Judd Apatow – refusing to hold back.
