Popular pizza chain Domino's has confirmed it will be launching its first takeaway restaurant 'soon' in Honiton after initially confirming it would be opening three months ago. It has not revealed what has caused the long delay, but it has assured it is still pressing ahead with its plans.

An official opening date of the former empty unit on Honiton High Street is yet to be announced. When it does, Domino's has promised that customers can look forward to some big discounts.

A spokesperson for Domino's said: "We look forward to opening the Honiton store soon and will update on our plans in due course. While the store opening was delayed due to circumstances outside of our control, we look forward to serving the community with the nation’s favourite pizza soon.

The arrival of Domino's in the East Devon market town has sparked a mixed reaction among residents. While some have welcomed the news, others are not keen to have a chain restaurant in the town due to the impact it may have on independent businesses. When a planning application was submitted for the takeaway, which was approved by East Devon District Council in October 2023, one supporter said: "Honiton really needs to catch up with the times".

Another added: "It's better to have shops filled with businesses than empty". But those objecting cited a number of concerns, namely that a big chain could 'price out' smaller businesses on the High Street.

In early March, Domino's said the takeaway would be opening at 86 High Street on March 25. The trading hours were confirmed as being 11am to 11pm, seven days a week.

The site was previously home to HSBC, which closed in June 2023, after the bank announced it was closing 114 of its branches across the country.
