The warm weather is set to continue in Cornwall this weekend, with one popular coastal town to reach highs of 23C. That's the highest temperature across the South West region today (May 11).

Last night Cornwall was dazzled by spectacular views of the Northern Lights and has now woken to a warm, sunny weekend. As the day progresses, the weather is expected to stay warm and dry, reaching the high teens and even getting into the twenties in some places.

It's good news for beachgoers as some of Cornwall's most popular tourist hotspots will be some of the hottest places. Bude will be the warmest at a comfortable 23C starting early this afternoon, with minimal cloud cover.

Other coastal spots, including St Ives and Newquay will also bask in warmer, both reaching highs of 20C. Further inland will also bask in warm weather, with Bodmin and Launceston also reaching the early twenties. South Cornwall won't be quite so warm with Falmouth and Truro to remain around 15 to 16C most of the day.

While the Met Office has issued a warning for thunderstorms across most of the South West, Cornwall is expected to escape this. The region will continue to see largely warm, dry weather over the weekend.

By Monday (May 13), Cornwall will have cooled down significantly into the low teens in most places. Cloudy and rainy weather will also move in at the beginning of next week.
