After a long winter of dark nights and drizzle the UK is finally set for a heatwave this weekend.

From Friday, May 10 through to Sunday, May 12, the Met Office has predicted blue skies, sunny weather and highs of 24 degrees.

So, get your sun cream out and stay safe this weekend as London begins to see some warm weather.

Forecast in full:

Today (Friday, May 10)

According to the Met Office, any early patchy mist or fog will soon clear, then weather will become dry with some patchy cloud at times but also long sunny periods.

Generally it should feel very warm with light winds, although light onshore winds will keep coastal areas cooler.

The maximum temperature will be 24 °C.

Tonight:

The Met Office forecasts dry weather, with long clear periods for most places.

However, there will be patchy low cloud or fog may develop later in the night as winds become very light.

The minimum temperature will be 7 °C.

Saturday:

The Met Office predicts that weather will be very warm with some patchy cloud, but also long bright or sunny periods once any early low cloud or fog clears.

It will be cooler along the coast with onshore breezes.

The maximum temperature will be 26 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunday is set to be very warm again with sunny spells, and heavy showers or thunderstorms spreading northeastwards, according to the Met Office.

Monday and Tuesday cooler with showers or longer spells of rain, also becoming breezy.
