BBC One's new thriller Apple Tree Yard will include Emily Watson and Ben Chaplin – but NO sex in the House of Commons, OK?!

Yep, Watson, who plays wife and mother Yvonne Carmichael in the new four-part show, claims she and co-star Chaplin were banned from filming steamy sex scenes inside the iconic Westminster building by officials.

Speaking to The Sun, the actress revealed: "We were banished. Because as it turns out you can blow up James Bond on Westminster Bridge but no sex, please!"

The show is written by BAFTA winner Amanda Coe, who said: "Apple Tree Yard is that rare thing, a perfectly-executed page turner that's also a gripping exploration of the difficult moral choices we face in adult relationships."

It comes after Watson argued that Hollywood ignores middle-aged female sexuality. Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph, she said women become more comfortable with their sexuality in later life but it is not yet reflected in films and television.

"We all know that Hollywood tends to ignore women from a certain time onwards, that cultural shift is likely to be driven by television," she explained.

"This idea that female sexuality is the preserve of 22-year-olds is just absurd. If anything, your sexuality blossoms during your late 40s and 50s.

"You know what you want. You've done marriage and children, you're settled, you've got the menopause coming up and I honestly think there's this moment where a woman thinks to herself, 'it's my life now – and it's far from over'."

Apple Tree Yard begins Sunday (January 22) at 9pm on BBC One.
