House of the Dragon fans think they know what happened to Laenor Velaryon thanks to huge clue

*Warning - The following article contains spoilers from House of the Dragon seasons 1 and 2.*

House of the Dragon enthusiasts have been sharing some grim theories regarding Laenor Velaryon's (John MacMillan) fate after his narrow escape on a boat last season.

With his family under the belief that Laenor fell victim to a murderous plot, seemingly at the hands of his former wife Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) to clear the path for their own nuptials, Laenor actually faked his death and set sail in secret.

As viewers now ponder what became of the prince since we last saw him, it remains to be seen whether he will make a comeback.

Viewers are unsure, turning to Reddit to exchange their hunches about Laenor's departure.

On the digital discussion board, one user posted an image showing a bald Laenor, recognisable locks shorn to avoid detection, rowing into the unknown, alongside the query: "Whatever happened to this dude?"

Some fans fear an ill fate has befallen him, following Mysaria's (Sonoya Mizuno) cryptic remark pointing to Laenor's dragon Seasmoke exhibiting signs of solitude and distress.

A viewer speculated: "Probably died abroad since Seasmoke is acting up."

Echoing the sentiment, someone else suggested: "I think he died off screen recently and that's why Seasmoke is lonely and sad," whilst another concurred: "Most likely dead since they hint that Seasmoke is restless of late."

One fan speculated about a brief scene, stating: "Seasmoke being restless and Mysaria suggesting 'maybe he's lonely' followed by the look on Rhaenyra's face feels like the show's way of saying he's died somewhere in the east." (sic)

"Rhaenyra mentioned his dragon seasmoke has gotten restless, this might indicate he died recently somewhere in essos," another viewer chimed in. (sic)

One fan suggested: "Seasmoke being restless makes me think Laenor might've died already. I'm hoping it was a peaceful and painless death because I liked his character. I was glad he got to escape all the family drama lol." (sic)

However, another fan expressed frustration with the character's storyline, writing: "As much as I liked Laenor he should have actually died. Too many plot holes. And they're gonna kill him off screen anyways so whats the point?" (sic)

Contrarily, one more viewer theorised that the dragon's behaviour could indicate something else entirely, suggesting: "I'm hoping he reappears to comfort his dad. Maybe Seasmoke is acting up because it feels his presence, not his death." (sic)

Some viewers held a more positive outlook, with one commenting: "He's prob living his best life and great for him lol." (sic)

Another predicted a heroic return for the character, stating: "This guy is going to swoop in to save someone random near the end of the season."

One fan even proposed an intriguing theory, saying: "My theory is that Viserys (youngest son of Daemon and Rhaenyra) is raised by Laenor when he gets lost in the free cities."

What will become of Laenor? We'll just have to wait and see how the rest of this season unfolds.

House of the Dragon season 2 lands in the UK on Mondays at 2am BST (British Summer Time) on Sky Atlantic and NOW, with a repeat airing later on at 9pm.
