The broadcast network has opted to cancel the animated comedy after a two-season run.

From creators Gabrielle Allan, Jennifer Crittenden and Clea DuVall and featuring a star-studded voice cast that included Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte and Maria Bamford, the second season of the comedy wrapped in August 2023.

The cancellation, however, is not a surprise considering that animated shows take longer to produce, and if Fox wanted to bring back Housebroken, production on a third season should have begun months ago.

Sources say the network was pleased with the show’s creative, but the lackluster ratings — season two averaged a mere 1 million viewers among the all-important advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic — gave Fox executives little choice but to cancel it.

Fox owns the show and produces it in-house via its deal with Bento Box Entertainment, the animation company behind Bob’s Burgers.

Even with the Housebroken cancellation, Fox continues to have a packed slate of animated comedies that includes Krapopolis, Grimsburg, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, The Great North and the upcoming Universal Basic Guys.
