It's the name that has had Mancunians talking for months. Who on earth is Howard?
The word has been emblazoned on several walls around the city in distinctive, if rather unimaginative, capital letters. His moniker has been seen in the city centre and beyond.
But after several weeks which have seen Mancs scratching their heads, the person behind the graffiti remains a mystery. Coun Pat Karney, who represents Harpurhey and lives in the city centre, has described the doodles as 'environmental vandalism'.
"I've seen it, it's all over north Manchester, particularly in Harpurhey," he told the Manchester Evening News. "It's nearly on every building and every wall.
"People will put up with a bit of graffiti but this is just disgustingly over the top." The Manchester councillor has made it his personal mission to see Howard's actions put to a stop.
"It's really disgraceful," he added. "He needs to be caught. If anyone has got any information please let me know - I'm on his case. Normally I don't get triggered by this type of stuff but this guy has gone completely over the top."
The mystery of who is behind the unsightly graffiti has rumbled on for a number of months. Social media users have been baffled by it - and many have simply had enough.
@Josh_Slater wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "Howard graffiti absolutely everywhere in Manchester and sick of it x please leave us alone Howard x" @BListAtCapital added: "anyone else in Manchester seeing that ‘Howard’ graffiti tag that seems to be everywhere they go lately?"
@rphamer1984 tweeted: "Everywhere around Manchester city centre and all the way to Middleton, some bloke called Howard is tagging everywhere, who the f*** is he?" Over on Reddit, Dylos89 suggested Howard was 'yet another s*** tagger ruining even more of the city'.
Aware_Ad1790 added: "Everywhere I go around Manchester I see Howard sprayed on walls, does anyone know for what purpose they are doing it because it's a bit s*** that it's just a name and not really any effort going into the the tagging to make it look good."
