A huge blaze has taken hold at an industrial estate. Emergency services have been scrambled to the inferno off Friarton Road in Perth this afternoon.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received the call shortly before 12.30pm and sent four appliances to the scene, near the River Tay in the south of the city.

The crews, which include a high-reach appliance team, currently remain on the scene and are trying to extinguish the flames.

Thick black smoke can be seen billowing into the sky over the Fair City.

The plumes can be seen from miles away as the blaze tears through the building, which sits close to the local recycling centre.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 12.23pm to a building fire in Friarton, Perth.

"We mobilised four appliance, including a high-reach appliance, to the scene. They currently remain on the scene."
