Huge emergency service response as fire rages through derelict social club

Firefighters converged on Hartlepool town centre this evening to tackle a large fire at a former social club.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at the Engineers Social Club in Raby Road at 7.30pm this evening (Tuesday, April 30).

Multiple fire engines from Cleveland Fire Brigade have spent hours on Raby Road attempting to control the flames at the large derelict building.

Cleveland Police were called in to help and blocking off the street, while encouraging members of the public to stay away.

Officers have warned people to keep their windows shut due to the smoke.

A Cleveland police spokesperson said: "Cleveland Police and the Fire Brigade are dealing with a large fire in Hartlepool.

"Officers were called to the scene at around 7.30pm today, 30 April 2024, at The Engineers Social Club on Raby Road.

"Although there is no threat to members of the public, officers advise that people avoid the area and nearby residents should close windows to avoid the volume of smoke entering their home.

"Police will remain on scene while the Fire Brigade deal with the fire."

The Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed that the incident was taking place at the former Engineers Social Club.
