Huge fire breaks out on Welsh hillside with flames visible from miles away

Fire crews have been called to a huge grass fire with flames visible from miles away. Crews were called to the blaze on the evening of Wednesday, April 24, on the outskirts of Swansea.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire was on Mynydd Gelliwastad near Clydach. A spokesperson said crews were called to the incident at 9.15pm. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.

Two fire engines and a 4x4 fire service vehicle were sent. The service is still in attendance at time of writing. A spokesperson added on X: "We are currently in attendance at a large fire at the top of Mynydd Gelliwastad, thank you very much for your calls."

The above picture was taken at 9.30pm by a local resident. Others posting on social media said there was a "huge fire" on the hill.
