Reports have come in that a fire is currently ablaze in Spencers Wood with large billows of smoke travelling across fields.

Due to two fire engines dealing with the issue, the Basingstoke Road is currently congested as hoses are blocking the way.

The fire started on a private property's field and currently a number of out houses are still producing a considerable amount of smoke.

The area is next door to Seven Oaks Drive and firefighters from Whitley Wood and Wokingham Road are currently dealing with the situation.

Due to the huge billows of smoke authorities are telling people to close windows and doors and are currently trying to prevent it spreading to a nearby corn field.

The fire services were contacted and provided the following comment:

"At 1.31pm on Thursday, July 4, we received reports of smoke in the area near Basingstoke Road, Spencers Wood.

"Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wokingham Road and Whitley Wood have currently been sent to the scene.

"Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire in a single storey outbuilding. They extinguished the fire using one hose reel and one main jet and were on the scene for about 2 hours and 45 minutes."
