Huge Tuna Almost Canned by Passing Boat in Dramatic Drone Shot

A peaceful drone shot of a large bluefin tuna was interrupted in a most dramatic way off the New York coast recently, as a boat steamed into the frame, narrowly avoiding the impressive specimen.

Joanna Steidle told Storyful that the footage was recorded “approximately 250 yards off the coast of Coopers Beach” on June 13.

She said the arrival of menhaden fish (or bunker fish) to the area had also led to “larger predators such as the bluefin tuna seen here” being spotted.

Steidle’s footage shows a close-up of the fish before the boat speeds past right beside it. Steidle said her “heart sank” at the near collision. She was, however, “very pleasantly surprised” to find that it seemed unscathed. Credit: Joanna Steidle via Storyful
