Huge Waves in Santa Cruz as Storm Sweeps California Coast

Huge waves battered the Santa Cruz coast as a storm brought high surf and flooding to parts of California’s Central Coast on Thursday, January 5.

Footage from Gabriel Sandoval shows what he described as “massive waves” crashing over a railing near Natural Bridges Beach in Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz County officials said the storm has caused “significant damage” throughout the county and along the coast, including heavy damage to piers in Capitola and Seacliff, and advised residents to avoid the coast due to dangerous surf.

The National Weather Service reported widespread rain showers, which led to additional localized flooding along the Central Coast on Thursday, prompting a flood advisory for the area. Credit: Gabriel Sandoval via Storyful
