Hugh Grant Imprisons His Houseguests in Chilling ‘Heretic’ Trailer

Hugh Grant has a unique strategy for discouraging unsolicited visitors in the first trailer for A24’s psychological horror feature Heretic.

The movie from writer-directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods hits theaters Nov. 15. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East co-star as two Christian missionaries who are invited into the house of Mr. Reed (Grant) after knocking on his door. But they soon realize that the sinister homeowner isn’t about to let them leave.

“I won’t keep you if you wish to leave,” Grant tells his pair of guests in the trailer, as he leads them to two closed doors. “But I want you to choose which door to go through, based on your faith.”

Later, Grant has a message of warning for the women. “It will make your hearts beat faster,” he teases. “It may even make you want to die.”

Beck and Woods, who broke out through their work on the script for the 2018 horror hit A Quiet Place, more recently wrote The Boogeyman and directed Adam Driver in the action film 65, with both titles released last year. They serve as producers on Heretic alongside Julia Glausi, Stacey Sher and Jeanette Volturno.

Grant’s recent films include Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Wonka and Unfrosted; on the television side, he recently appeared in Kate Winslet’s HBO limited series The Regime. He is set to reprise his role of Daniel Cleaver opposite Renée Zellweger in the Universal sequel feature Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, hitting theaters early next year.

Yellowstone star Thatcher starred on the big screen in The Boogeyman and appears in the forthcoming horror flick MaXXXine. East had a role in The Fabelmans and was part of the HBO Max series Generation.
