Hugh Jackman Steps Out in New York City 2 Weeks After Announcing Separation from Deborra-lee Jackman

A source told PEOPLE earlier this month that Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Jackman are "devastated" in the wake of their breakup

Hugh Jackman is out and about in New York City.

On Thursday, Jackman, 54, was seen taking a stroll in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood, wearing an orange sweater, dark blue jeans and aviator-style sunglasses.

Jackman's sighting comes almost two weeks after he and wife Deborra-lee Jackman announced in an exclusive statement with PEOPLE that they decided to amicably end their marriage after 27 years.

The X-Men star has been photographed since he and Deborra-lee, 67, broke the news: once on a solo stroll the day after the announcement, and again on Sept. 18 in the company of his friend and Deadpool 3 costar Ryan Reynolds.

"We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage," said Jackman and Deborra-lee — who share son Oscar, 23, and daughter Ava, 18 —i in their statement. "Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth," they wrote in a statement. "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."

The statement, signed “Deb and Hugh Jackman," concluded: "This is the sole statement either of us will make."

In the days following their announcement, a source told PEOPLE that the former couple is "devastated" and that the split is "very hard" for them.

"It was not a snap decision — they took a lot of time and consideration of everything, and they made this decision together," the source said. "They are going on separate journeys, but they will always be a family. They’ll always be co-parents and best friends."

"This has nothing to do with anything other than the fact that they’re on different journeys right now," the insider added.

Jackman is set to costar with Reynolds, 46, in the upcoming third Deadpool movie for Marvel, in which he will reprise his popular X-Men role as Logan / Wolverine. The movie began filming in London in the days before before Hollywood actors went on strike in July.
