Hollywood star Hugh Jackman made an unexpected appearance at a Norwich waffle restaurant that has delighted fans.

The Wolverine star stopped into The Waffle House in Norwich city centre on Sunday for a bite to eat, and posted about his "cheat meal" on Twitter.

Jackman couldn't have looked more delighted with his indulgent meal in photos from his visit, which included a grinning selfie and pictures of his main course of bolognese waffle, followed by a banoffee waffle for dessert.

The Greatest Showman star wrote: "Happy cheat meal to me!! Noooo! I did not share. And, I’m not sorry."

Meanwhile, the restaurant's staff shared that Jackman was a lovely customer and even helped out a little in the kitchen, despite his superstar status.

They posted on the Waffle House Facebook page to show off a selfie of Jackman and the staff in the kitchen and wrote: "Huge thank you to thehughjackman for being such a legend… posing for a photo and mentioning us on his social media pages."

Adding in a Wolverine quip, they added: "He also helped chop some vegetables in the kitchen with his claws."

Fans couldn't believe their local restaurant had become a celebrity hotspot, as one person commented: "No waaaaaaayyy! What a legend!!!"

Someone else wrote: "OMG! Waffles & Wolverine, my two favourite things together in Norwich!"

Another person added: "Hugh Jackman AND waffles!!! What more could you want?!!"

One fan commented: "I travelled all the way to New York to see that b***** in Music Man and he was off sick…now he’s in my home town!"

For those wondering what Jackman was doing in Norwich over the weekend, a sighting of the X-Men actor there isn't as unusual as you might think.

He is a renowned Norwich City Football Club fan and his mum lives in Norfolk, so he's no stranger to the city.

Even so, Waffle House manager Emily Blakemore said she didn't recognise him at first when he came in for lunch with his family.

She told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Then I turned around and all the other staff were peeking around the corner, saying, 'it's Hugh Jackman, Hugh Jackman'.

"It was very surreal - the energy and excitement on that shift was just crazy.

"He must get that all the time when he goes out... and we were aware he was in with his family and we just wanted him to have as normal an experience as possible."
