Hull City have confirmed the appointment of Tim Walter's two closest aides as the German's coaching staff takes shape ahead of the new Championship season which kicks off at home to Bristol City on August 10.

As Hull Live revealed last month, both Julian Hubner and Filip Tapalovic have joined Walter's new-look coaching team following his appointment at City at the back end of May, and have been getting to grips with their new surroundings at Cottingham this week following the players' return to training on Monday morning.

Hubner and Tapalovic are long-term colleagues of Walter having worked with him in Hamburg, with Hubner his assistant manager and former Croatia international Tapalovic the German giants' first team coach. The pair will take on the role of joint-assistant boss to Walter under his leadership at City.

The pair will join club legend Andy Dawson who remains from Liam Rosenior's previous coaching regime and will continue in his existing role in supporting the new head coach.

Who is Julian Hubner?

The 40-year-old has known Walter for many years and after leaving his role as manager of German side SV Rulzheim in the summer of 2021, he joined up with Walter to be his assistant manager at Hamburg. Hubner cut his teeth in coaching at Karlsruher as assistant manager of their youth team before becoming manager of the young B team and went on to become Walter's assistant with the Under-19s at Hamburg.

Who is Filip Tapalovic?

Tapalovic is a 47-year-old German-born former Croatia international who previously played for the likes of Schalke, Bochum and 1860 Munich, playing 138 times in the Bundesliga with the midfielder moving into coaching at 1860 Munich as part of their academy system before stepping up to be assistant coach of the first team.

Four years after starting his coaching career in Munich he made the switch to Australia. First was a two-year spell with A-League side Adelaide United as assistant coach to fellow German Marco Kurz., before moving with Kurz to Melbourne Victory. After Kurz was let go at Melbourne, Tapalovic made the move to Hamburg in 2021 to join up with Walter, staying until the coaching staff were let go in February this year.
