Hull City's players are determined to reward their travelling band of supporters with a 12th away win of the season and one that could yet end with a precious place in the Championship's top six.

City must win and hope for a West Brom defeat at home to Preston North End or an eight-goal swing involving Norwich City who face relegation-threatened Birmingham City.

Defender Alfie Jones, who was one of the award winners at the club's end-of-season ceremony on Tuesday night, says his teammates can only focus on their job and ensure they keep their part of the bargain.

"That's it. We need to do our job first and foremost and that's what we're focusing on. Fingers crossed results go away," Jones told Hull Live.

Coventry's defeat at home to Ipswich on Tuesday night assured City of a seventh-placed finish at the very least, and while Jones accepts the improvement, he feels, like many supporters, the Tigers should be higher.

"Definitely, we've had a good season, but we definitely don't want it to end here," he said. "We feel like we should be higher than we are, but we showed the mentality that we have in the dressing room to come back three times (against Ipswich) and it leaves it all down to the last day.

"We need to do our job. We always have belief, we can't not have belief in a game like this when you go behind, because we knew what was at stake with the results (before the game) that we needed to get something out of this game.

"It was frustrating not to get the three points, but again, coming back can give us real confidence to go into Saturday. We need to fully prepare and we will."

The final day will be filled with excitement and drama, and Jones says given Plymouth's perilous plight, and their need to win to secure safety, it could play into City's favour.

"That hope keeps you going and like I said before, we need to do our job," he said. "I think with Plymouth going for it as well, it might suit us. It'll be an open game, end to end and that can suit us as well because it will leave good opportunities."

Liam Rosenior's side will be backed by a sold-out away support of 1,700 at Home Park, with many leaving East Yorkshire at 2am, something Jones hopes to reward.

"A sold-out away end, it's unbelievable. Plymouth away on 12:30pm on the last game is unbelievable from the fans making that journey, so we appreciate that, and we'll do everything we can to give them the three points."
