Hull City sign ex-Sheffield United prospect as youngster joins Scottish club for undisclosed fee

Hull City have swooped to sign youngster George Dickinson following his Sheffield United release. The midfielder has penned a one-year deal with the East Yorkshire outfit, with the club holding an option for a further 12 months.

The 19-year-old, who featured for the Tigers’ Under-21 side on trial over the course of the 2023/24 season, will officially move to the MKM Stadium on 1 July following the expiry of his Blades deal. Lead Professional Development Phase Coach Conor Sellars said: “George trained with us for about 10 days and had two games within that period. As staff, we were really pleased with his performances in games, but also the character he had in training.

“He will be a massive part of the group heading into the new season. He has shown real leadership qualities. He is very aggressive out of possession and has great ability in possession. He is somebody we are really excited to work with and our style of play will improve him in certain areas.”

Dickinson has spoken of his joy over getting the deal "over the line" and is excited for the future. “I like the way we play," he said. "In the structure, there is a freedom where you can go and enjoy yourself. I like to get on the ball and dictate the game, show off my passing range, getting stuck into tackles and above anything else, working hard for the team.

“Conor (Sellars) has been brilliant. When I came here, he was very welcoming and made sure going into both games and in sessions, I knew what I was doing and while I have been away, he was ringing me up and checking how I was and making me feel reassured which I appreciated, and I am looking forward to working with him.

“Personally, I want to come into pre-season flying and fit. I have got to be able to earn opportunities; I know they are not going to be handed out. I want to be in and around the first team as much as I deserve in this coming season.”

Meanwhile, the Tigers have confirmed that Oliver Green has joined Scottish Championship side Livingston for an undisclosed fee. Green captained City's Under-18s and U21 sides, featuring for the first team in three pre-season friendlies. He also enjoyed loan spells in non-league with Bridlington Town, Marske United and York City.

A City statement read: "The 21-year-old’s contract was set to expire on 30 June but Livingston would still have been required to pay compensation for the cross-border transfer of a player under the age of 23. We would like to thank Olly for his dedication during his time with the club and wish him well north of the border."
