Huma Abedin, ex-wife of Anthony Weiner and former Clinton aide, engaged to Alex Soros

NEW YORK — Huma Abedin, a former Hillary Clinton staffer who was married to disgraced New York politician Anthony Weiner, is engaged to Alex Soros — the son of billionaire political donor George Soros.

The couple announced their marriage plans on Instagram Wednesday.

“This happened…we couldn’t be happier, more grateful, or more in love,” the pair captioned a photo of Abedin standing on a balcony with Soros down on one knee.

According to Vogue, Soros, 38, proposed to Abedin, 47, in late May after less than a year of dating. He reportedly popped the question at a home in New York City, with the couple holding a formal celebration in Italy.

The two have been making the scene at recent high-profile events such as the Met Gala and a White House state dinner.

Abedin reportedly met Soros, the head of the multi-billion dollar Open Society Foundations philanthropic empire, last fall at a “mutual friend’s birthday party, where they quickly discovered their mutual interests in politics and public service,” reported Vogue.

Abedin had previously worked closely with Hillary Clinton in the White House, Senate and State Department — eventually serving as vice chair of her 2016 presidential campaign.

In May 2017, after seven years of marriage, Abedin filed for divorce from former Democratic congressman Weiner — the same day he pleaded guilty to sexting with a minor. He was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

The ex-couple’s son, Jordan, was born in 2011.
