Two MPs representing seats in the Humber region are among those standing down at the general election July.

Conservatives Andrew Percy, who has been MP for Brigg and Goole since 2010, and Sir Greg Knight, of the East Yorkshire seat, will not contest the election on Thursday, July 4. Their seats are also set to change at the election due following the Boundary Commission for England's review which published its final recommendations in 2023.

Mr Percy's seat will be abolished and divided between the constituencies of Brigg and Immingham, Scunthorpe, Doncaster East and Isle Of Axholme, and Goole and Pocklington. Sir Greg's seat is set for slight alterations and will be rechristened Bridlington and the Wolds.

The two Conservatives are among the 127 who have announced their intention to stand down as of Tuesday (May 28).

The 77 Conservatives include former prime minister Theresa May and Kwasi Kwarteng, who served as Liz Truss' chancellor. The total number of Conservatives standing down is around a fifth of the 365 MPs elected in 2019 including those who are no longer in the party.

Nadhim Zahawi, who had two stints as chancellor under Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak, and Dominic Raab, who was deputy prime minister to the latter, are also quitting. A total of 28 Labour MPs are standing down including Harriet Harman, who was Labour's deputy leader from 2007 to 2015, and Margaret Beckett, a foreign secretary under Tony Blair.

Margaret Hodge, a culture and tourism minister under Gordon Brown and Natalie Elphicke, who recently defected from the Conservatives, are also not seeking re-election. Nine SNP MPs are also set to leave Parliament in July along with eight independents, three from Sinn Fein, sole Green MP Caroline Lucas and one from Plaid Cymru.

Several of the independents are standing down after resigning from their parties or losing their whip. Those standing down also include former DUP leader Jefferey Donaldson amid allegations and charges of historic sex offences.
