Hundreds Call FBI About Paedophile Teacher

Hundreds of people have called the FBI about paedophile teacher William James Vahey, greatly increasing the number of potential victims.

Investigators previously said the American abused up to 90 boys aged from 12 to 14 during his career.

The 64-year-old killed himself in March after evidence of molestation was found on a memory drive stolen by his maid in Nicaragua.

Vahey had taught history and geography at the elite Southbank International School in London from 2009 to last year.

Images of between 50 and 60 students at the £25,000-a-year school were found on the computer drive.

After appealing for victims to come forward, the FBI says it has been "contacted by several hundred individuals from around the globe wishing either to reach out as potential victims or provide information in the ongoing investigation".

Vahey taught at various international schools around the world, and because he drugged some of his victims, many may not have even known they were abused.

A former student of the paedophile told Sky News she believes three of her classmates killed themselves after being abused by Vahey.

Vahey's thumb drive was handed to the US Embassy by one of Vahey's co-workers at the American Nicaraguan School in Managua after it was discovered by the maid.

The FBI said: "When confronted about the images by a school administrator, Vahey confessed that he was molested as a child and had preyed on boys his entire life, giving them sleeping pills prior to the molestation."

Vahey was convicted of a child sex offence in California in 1969 but appears to have failed to sign the sex offenders' register.

The investigation is being led by the FBI, with help from the Metropolitan Police.

On April 22 officers searched Vahey's home in north London, where a laptop and 11 memory sticks were recovered.
