Hundreds of Thousands March in Protest Against Petro Government

Hundreds of thousands of people gathered across Colombia streets to protest against Gustavo Petro’s government on Sunday, April 21.

According to a report citing authorities in El Pais, simultaneous marches in a dozen of Colombian cities brought together approximately 400,000 protesters, with over 80,000 of them marching through Bogota.

Petro estimated the numbers of demonstrators around 250,000.

“The democratic project is in danger,” Petro said. “What they want here is to overthrow the popular government and kill the president.”

Footage shared by Bogota councilman Rolando Gonzalez Garcia shows protesters marching through the capital’s streets while holding signs, some of which read “Yo trabajo por la salud de Colombia” (“I work for Colombia’s health”) and “Petro es enemigo de la democracia” (“Petro is the enemy of democracy”).

“I want Petro to get out,” one of the demonstrator can be heard saying in the video when asked why he is marching.
