Hungary boss trumps Scotland misery as Marco Rossi dares anyone to bet 'one forint' on them in 'impossible' Germany mission

Hungary boss Marco Rossi is outdoing Scotland in the pessimism stakes as he dared anyone to bet "one Hungarian forint" on his side against Germany.

The Magyars also made a losing start to their Euro 2024 Group A campaign, going down 3-1 to Switzerland in Cologne. The Swiss dominated a first half that saw the Hungarians barely string any passes together, which will have given a watching Steve Clarke some comfort after his side suffered a chasing against the hosts the previous evening.

However, Rossi's side improved after the break and the game was only over when Brees Embolo restored his team's two-goal advantage in stoppage time. Scotland take on Switzerland on Wednesday night and a result will keep qualification hopes alive heading in to Sunday's showdown with Hungary. The Magyars then face Germany in the Wednesday 5pm kick-off and know that defeat will see them eliminated. But far from rallying the troops, Italian coach Rossi seems to have thrown in the towel after watching his side's first half display against Murat Yakin's men.

"We play Germany in four days. I dare anybody to bet one Hungarian forint on us. As of today that looks impossible," he said. "Germany are a different team than the last Euros, they proved it against Scotland. In my opinion they are the biggest favourite of the European Championship.

"We had a tactical misunderstanding. We didn't cope and have time to press them. The first half was very bad. We were too passive.

"Switzerland are very experienced, with quality players all over the pitch. Against teams at this level, you run the risk of doing bad things. They made the most of our mistakes.

"We had some short-comings in individual performances. There aren't many strategies to stop individual mistakes. It's hard to say anyone did well apart from two or three performances."
