Hunt for 'man in skull mask' after paving slab launched into window of police car

Police have launched a hunt for a masked individual following an incident in Morecambe over the weekend.

Emergency services were called to Euston Road yesterday afternoon (May 6), shortly before 4.30pm following reports of criminal damage. While an officer from Lancashire Constabulary was taking details inside an address, a paving slab was launched at the windscreen of a marked squad car.

The attack caused the glass to smash. Officers would like to speak to an individual, believed to be male, caught on CCTV during the incident. It is believed they may be able to help an investigation into the incident.

According to Lancashire Constabulary, they have been forced to remove the police car from the road while repairs are carried out. Anyone with information, of those who witnessed the incident, have been urged to come forward.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We would like to speak to the man in the photograph about a criminal damage which occurred on Euston Road in Morecambe at around 16:20hrs.

"Whilst an officer was inside an address taking details of an incident, the man below threw a paving slab at the windscreen of a marked police vehicle, causing it to smash. We have now had to remove the vehicle from the road, meaning there is one less vehicle available to deploy to emergency incidents.

"We ask anybody with any information about the incident or who can identify this male to contact our control room on 101 quoting log number LC-20240506-0997."
