Huw Edwards resigns from BBC after 40 years

Huw Edwards has stepped down from the BBC on "medical advice," the broadcaster confirmed today. Edwards, a familiar face who hasn't appeared on screen since July last year amid allegations of paying for sexual images from a young person, has ended his 40-year tenure with the corporation.

A spokesperson for the BBC stated: "Huw Edwards has today resigned and left the BBC. After 40 years of service, Huw has explained that his decision was made on the basis of medical advice from his doctors."

"The BBC has accepted his resignation which it believes will allow all parties to move forward. We don't believe it appropriate to comment further."

Edwards was a leading figure at the BBC, known for presenting significant events including Royal weddings and funerals as well as regular news broadcasts, reports Wales Online.
