Terence ‘Terry’ Jenkins

Peacefully after a short illness, Terence ‘Terry”, aged 84 years, of Accrington.

Dearly beloved husband of Doreen, much-loved dad of Paul, and the late Anita, dear father-in- law of Julie, loving grandad of Vincent, dear brother of Maureen, Brian, Kathleen and Kenneth, and a dear brother-in-law, much- loved uncle and a dear friend to many.

In the early part of his life, Terry worked at Hapton Colliery, and after ten years joined AMEC which was later known as Fairclough’s then C.V. Buchan on Bolton Avenue in Huncoat.

Terry’s hard work and conscientiousness for the company lead to him becoming transport manager, safety officer and manager of the yard.

After over 40 years loyal service, Terry took early retirement due to ill health. Terry was an accomplished dart player winning lots of trophies from the many tournaments and competitions he entered in his younger years, in particular winning the Observer Trophy.

Terry enjoyed playing crown green bowling and was a member of Burnley Road Bowling Green Club for many years, Terry also liked playing dominoes every Friday at the club.

Terry loved to make apple crumble using apples from his own apple trees and spent lots of time watching and feeding the birds in his garden.

Terry and Doreen enjoyed many memorable holidays together, enjoying some well- earned rest and relaxation.

Most of all, Terry was a devoted family man and loyal friend to many who will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.

Terry’s funeral service was held at Accrington Crematorium Chapel, on Friday, May 31, followed by interment at Accrington Cemetery. Family flowers only please.

Kay Dobson

Kay passed away suddenly at her home in Huncoat on Wednesday, May 15, aged 77 years. She was the wife of her loving husband Brian, mother to Sacha, Lee and Dean.

Mother-in-law to Simon and George and sister to Lyn and Jim. She was much-loved by nephews and nieces, stepchildren and grandchildren.

Kay was born in Accrington and attended Hyndburn Park School. She started work at 16 and had a number of jobs while her children were young.

She later worked at Hambledon Studios and made many, many good friends. She will also be remembered as the landlady of The Queen’s Pub and The Stanley Club in Accrington.

Kay loved her holidays abroad and, in her later years, travelling to Whitby and to Lytham St Anne’s where she stayed at the St Ives Hotel. She will be sadly missed by so many family and friends.

Kay’s funeral will take place on Tuesday, June 4, at 11am at Accrington Crematorium Chapel, conducted by Neil Overton. Family flowers only, donations to British Heart Foundation c/o Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington.

Ronald Taylor

Ronald Taylor died peacefully at Spring Hill Care Home, May 19, aged 94 years.

Ron leaves behind his daughter Pauline and son-in-law Michael. His two grandsons David and Steven and their wives.

And his great-grandchildren Oscar and Oakley. Ron was a widower to the late Dorothy to whom they had their only child Pauline.

Ron was a former builder at Calderstones, was a keen biker and always loved tinkering away in his garage underneath cars or with his bikes. His funeral will be held on Friday, June 7, at 1pm at Accrington Crematorium.

Rodney Dickinson

Rodney died peacefully and suddenly, aged 87 years, in Springhill Nursing Home, Accrington, on May 11.

Rodney had lead a varied life, starting off in the RAF, doing his National Service, then he was a bus driver. He also worked as the Mayor’s chauffeur until his retirement.

He leaves his loving daughters Kathleen and Autumn, grandchildren Josef, Jed, Lysette and Adam. Great-granddaughter Evie, son-in-law Andy, uncle to Helen and Brian.

Also sadly missed by Ciara and Larisa. Rodney was secretary to Great Harwood Male Voice Choir and he was also a steam train model railway enthusiast.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday, June 5, at 11.30am at Clayton Baptist Church, Sparth Road, Clayton-le-Moors, followed by cremation at 12.20pm at Accrington Crematorium, conducted by Ann Lawson. Thanks also to all staff at Belvedere and Springhill Nursing Homes.
