Stone Roses' Ian Brown responds to criticism of gig with no live band

Watch: Ian Brown's solo shows with no live band, just backing track

Former Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown has responded to criticism of his latest solo show - which has been compared to 'karaoke'.

The 59-year-old Fool's Gold singer is currently touring the UK performing his solo hits - with no live band accompanying him on stage, but simply singing alone to a backing track.

Ticketholders who attended his Leeds gig on Sunday 25 September have complained on social media that they felt misled by the description of a 'ive' show and some even said they walked out early from the 90 minute set, as they compared it to a karaoke performance.

Brown hit back on Twitter: "GLASGOW. HATERS HATE AND LOVERS LOVE!"

Brown performed in Glasgow on Monday 26 September and is due to continue his headline tour in cities around the UK including Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham and London.

Concertgoers who attended his performance at the O2 Academy in Leeds complained they had paid "£40 to see a karaoke act".

Others demanded their money back, joking hit solo single F.E.A.R. stands for “For Everyone A Refund".

Steven Latham tweeted: “Gutted to see @ianbrown turn up to his £40 a ticket, sold out gig at Leeds tonight WITH NO BAND.

“I’m a lifelong fan but it was bad. #ianbrown does karaoke and butchers his own tunes.”

But Steve Knight posted: "If you are a fan of Ian Brown's solo stuff and you have tickets for his tour, you'll love it but don't go expecting Stone Roses songs or a backing band as he has neither."

Post-punk duo Sleaford Mods tweeted: "Ian Brown's solo stuff has always been more hip hop and beat orientated so his new set-up works.

"It's not like he's Black Sabbath or summat is it."

During the coronavirus pandemic Brown became very vocal of his disapproval of the vaccination programme.

He pulled out of a music festival in March 2021 following claims attendees would have to provide proof they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Love Spreads singer was due to headline Neighbourhood Weekender in Warrington, Cheshire, but told his Twitter followers that he will not be performing.
