The reboot of popular American sitcom iCarly has been cancelled after three seasons on streaming service Paramount+.

The show, which starred Miranda Cosgrove as the titular web show host Carly Shay, originally ran from 2007 to 2012 on Nickelodeon before it was picked up by Paramount+ in 2020.

Continuing, they added: "We want to thank the entire cast, the writers, directors and producers, along with the whole crew, for their dedication, creativity and talent."

The original series followed Carly, alongside best friends Sam and Freddie (Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Kress) as the trio are thrust into the limelight after becoming viral sensations.

Jerry Trainor also starred as Carly's brother Spencer Shay in both versions. Laci Mosley and Jaidyn Triplett joined the reboot as new characters Harper and Millicent.

Although McCurdy did not return for the reboot, which is set nine years after the events of the original iCarly, fans were pleased to see Carly and Freddie finally become romantically involved.

The reboot ended on a cliffhanger, after it was revealed that Carly and Spencer's mother – who had never been seen or mentioned in the show's original run or revival – abandoned the pair when they were children.

In the final episode of the third season of iCarly, their mother arrived at Carly and Freddie's long-awaited wedding, meaning fans will never get to see how the interaction plays out.

The reboot received rave reviews from critics, including a perfect 100% rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes for the first season.

Viewers of the show praised the reboot for keeping the original show's audience in mind with a more mature tone, while keeping its trademark charm.

Paramount+ did not provide reason for the cancellation.
