New Iceland superstore to open in former Wilko with vouchers and gifts for first customers

Iceland is set to open a new Food Warehouse in Leicestershire. The new store, in the former Wilko in Melton Road, Syston, will open on Tuesday, May 21, and will have plenty of bargains to tempt shoppers along on day one, according to a company spokesperson.

Opening day will also see £1,000 worth of Iceland vouchers being given out to the first 100 customers through the door, as well as a huge 1.2kg tub of Jellybeans for the first 200 customers through the checkouts.

The store will create about 30 new jobs in the area and some are still available, the spokesperson added.

It will be the fifth Iceland store in the Leicester area and the second Food Warehouse, with one in St George's Retail Park in Leicester city centre. The warehouses are about double the size of other Iceland stores, offering a bigger range of goods, often at cheaper prices.

For one day only, on May 21, the new Food Warehouse in Syston will have seven special deals available to customers in the store. Anyone attending on opening day can make the most of the following one-off deals:

  • Pepsi Max Cans - 24 pack, £7 – was £10

  • Velvet Classic Quilted Toilet Tissue - 24 pack, £5 – was £8.50

  • Yorkshire Tea bags - 210 pack, £4 - was £5.25

  • Pot Noodles – Any 12 for £8 - was £10

  • Carling Original – 18 pack, £15.50 - was £12

  • Surf Laundry Powder Tropical Lily - 4kg, £9 - was £11

  • Cadbury’s Multipack Chocolate Bars – 9 pack for £2 – was £2.75

The supermarket opens at 8am on opening day and anyone joining the queue before 7.45am - as well as the vouchers and a big tub of Jelly Beans - will get a free raffle ticket. The winner of the raffle will be able to take part in a supermarket sweep, helping themselves to everything they can grab off the shelves in 90 seconds.

Other prizes will include hampers, air fryers and blenders. Kristian Barrett, group retail director at Iceland Foods, said: “We’re very excited to be opening our new store, ensuring even more local residents can get their hands on market-leading deals, alongside a brilliant range of frozen, grocery and fresh foods.
