Iconic Kent railway named among world’s top attractions

A renowned Kentish attraction has been named among the best in the world, and it’s all thanks to the people who have visited. As the iconic Kent and East Sussex Railway (K&ESR) celebrates its 50th anniversary of re-opening, it has also netted one of the prestigious TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards.

One of the leading online platforms for reviews and recommendations, TripAdvisor hands out these coveted accolades to those attractions that see regular praise and high ratings from visitors. Earning one of these awards places the attraction among the top 10 per cent of listed places to visit around the world on TripAdvisor.

Based in Tenterden, K&ESR is a heritage railway dating back over 120 years that welcomes thousands of passengers and visitors every year. It offers authentic steam and diesel-powered railway experience across 10.5 miles of the picturesque Wealden countryside between Tenterden and Bodiam.

Throughout the year, the railway hosts a range of exciting experiences and journeys, from Christmas train rides to Star Wars themed days. Providing truly unique days out through some of the best views the south east has to offer, it's little wonder K&ESR has grown such an impressive reputation.

It currently boasts a near-perfect TripAdvisor rating of 4.5 stars out of five from more than 1,200 reviews. Recounting their experience, one past passenger said: “I was bought the experience and can thoroughly recommend it!

“From the time we arrived at Tenterden station we were greeted by very helpful and pleasant staff. The train journey, a leisurely meander through a very green Kent countryside, was enhanced by the afternoon tea and scones. Everything was perfect!”
