IDF Drops Leaflets on Rafah Telling People 'Evacuate Immediately'

Israeli forces dropped leaflets on Rafah on Monday, May 6, telling people there to “evacuate immediately”.

Footage from Palestinian journalist Mahmoud Bassam shows a man picking up a leaflet and showing it to the camera.

The leaflet reads, according to a machine translation, “The Israel Defense Forces will act with extreme force against the terrorist organizations in the areas where you live – as it has done so far. Anyone who is near terrorist organizations puts his life and the life of his family at risk. For your safety, the Israel Defense Forces calls on you to evacuate immediately to the humanitarian zone.”

On X, the IDF said it had “expanded the humanitarian area in Al-Mawasi”.

It said calls to “temporarily move to the humanitarian area will be conveyed through flyers, SMS messages, phone calls and media broadcasts in Arabic.”

It said “an ongoing situation assessment will guide the gradual movement of civilians in the specified areas in eastern Rafah to the humanitarian area.”

The Times of Israel reported on Monday that Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin that there was “no choice left” but to launch an offensive in Rafah. Credit: Mahmoud Bassam via Storyful
