‘I'm A Celebrity’ contestant sick over abseiling entry challenge

Watch: Jordan North vomits before first I’m A Celeb challenge

Jordan North got off to a rough start on I’m A Celebrity as he became so worked up over abseiling down a cliff that he threw up.

The Radio 1 DJ and his fellow contestants were seen arriving in Wales for this year’s series during the launch programme on Sunday night.

In true I’m A Celebrity style, the contestants faced a gruelling entrance into the new camp - Gwrych Castle - with some of them having to abseil down a treacherous-looking cliff face.

North was so scared of the task that he vomited before he even tackled it, and had to be comforted by the others.

The stomach-churning challenge saw North, Vernon Kay, Jessica Plummer, Giovanna Fletcher and Victoria Derbyshire driven to the top of a cliff, where they learned they would have to get down the rocks with the help of the five celebrities below – Shane Richie, Beverley Callard, AJ Pritchard, Hollie Arnold and Mo Farah.

Not only that, but they would have to collect a rucksack for everyone along the way. If someone’s rucksack was missed, that person wouldn’t have their kit for the first night in the camp.

North was terrified as soon as he discovered what he would be facing, telling the others: “I’ve got a number of fears and heights is definitely one of them!”

TV presenter Kay joked that one of the hopefuls could die “which makes great telly”, but it was too much for North, who confessed to feeling “queasy”.

As the others looked on he bent over some rocks and threw up.

“I can’t believe I was sick, I’ve only been here five minutes and I’m puking up already,” he said afterwards.

Author and vlogger Fletcher was the first to make it down the cliff, with Kay hot on her heels. There was a tense moment at the presenter appeared to stumble, but he quickly recovered and made it down with ease.

Journalist Derbyshire admitted she didn’t think she could make it, muttering “Oh my God” as she set off, but she made it to the bottom without any issues.

Actor Plummer went fourth, leaving North alone at the top of the cliff.

With nobody left to go he kneeled down and nervously peered over the edge. However, he opted to face his fears and set off, groaning, as the contestants waiting below shouted their encouragement.

Laughing with delight, he managed to secure his rucksack and got to the bottom as everyone cheered.

North said he was thrilled with what he had achieved, although it had been “petrifying”.

This year’s series, which is once again hosted by Ant and Dec, has moved from Australia to Gwrych Castle in Wales because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Due to the move from the Australian wilderness to the Welsh estate, the show is set to crown its first King or Queen of the Castle, instead of the jungle.

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! airs on ITV.
