The reality star was voted the winner by viewers out of the 12 celebrities who entered the jungle this year, and winning against Brexit pioneer Nigel Farage and retired boxer Tony Bellew in an all-male final.

I'm A Celebrity superfan Thompson told hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly: "Oh my God [I feel] really overwhelmed. I didn't even think i was going to be invited on this show let along win it. I don't know what to say."

Boxer Bellew was placed second and politician Farage was third runner-up.

The former MEP told Ant and Dec: "I threw myself into it, I did not show any fear at all. I gave you nothing."

Of coming third he said: "I'm not surprised. I'm thrilled. Not everyone likes the stuff I have campaigned for, but we're all entitled to our opinion and hopefully this has shown I'm as human as everybody. There are things I'm good at, things I'm bad at. I've mucked in. If you asked me would I do it again, to be honest I think I would."

Farage said of the arguments he'd been involved in in camp: "I never raised one political debate the whole time I was in there. Others did with me, I had proper debates, no screaming arguments, Fred wanted to have screaming arguments with me, but I had not big fall outs and if the public have voted me number three, so be it."

Ant joked: That was a bit of a trial in itself!"

Nigel replied: "The legs are a bit weary..."

Offered a glass of fizz he laughed: "A bit early for me normally but cheers."

Nigel said of his experience: "I've loved it. I came into it with a positive attitude. I haven't done anything like this - camping - since I was a teenager and to be honest I've loved it."

Asked why he finally said yes to producers after being invited to do the show so many times before he replied: "I had time. I'm 60 next birthday and I'm going to reach an age when I can't do it. It's very physical."

The former politician went on: "I threw myself into it, I did not show any fear at all.

Nigel said he had been pleased to share the camp with "People of all ages and backgrounds, that potpourri of different people was a delight."

    Nigel locked in Snake Pit

For Nigel's final Bushtucker trial he was locked in Panic Pit and had to remain for 10 minutes to win all the desserts for the last meal and his chosen drink of red wine.

Gradually the pit began to fill with tanks.

Nigel said: "Proper Sunday out this, people would pay for it."

And and Dec asked: "What would you normally be doing on a Sunday."

Nigel said: "Down the boozer. Like normal people."

As he began to be covered with snakes And and Dec asked where he was going in his mind.

Farage revealed: "I'm thinking about all the places I have been that were worse than this. That little plane that crashed a few years back, being stuck in the wreckage. That was probably worse than this."

He also joked about trouser snakes, and claimed the European Parliament was full of snakes,

As the trail came to an end he sang "Please remove me, let me go."

But afterwards he told Ant and Dec, "I did it. I din't flinch."

    Sam's not so gourmet feast

Sam is up next and he must face Bushtucker Bonanza, an eating trial. He must eat five dishes to win five stars and win main courses for the camp's last meal, and a drink and treat for himself.

Sam confesses: "My girlfriend will tell you, I'm the fussiest eater ever!"

On his dishes are a witchetty grub, camel’s toe, a fish eye and a scorpion, pig’s vagina and a camel’s penis.

Sam can't believe it when he sees the camel's toe. "It's so big and it stinks!"

Tony told him: “Teddy T is saying, you’ve got this. Yes champ, you've got this."

Sam gagged but managed not to be sick and showed Ant and Dec his empty mouth.

The Made In Chelsea star choked on the fish eye and almost spat it back out, but then showed Ant and Dec his empty mouth.

As he ate the scorpion Ant and Dec joked, "If it stings on the way out, let the medics know."

Sam struggled with the pig's vagina. He said, "I don't think I can do this one."

But Ant and Dec started a rousing chorus of JLS song Everybody In Love to try and encourage him.

Sam at the camel's penis and exclaimed: "That is so hard!"

After he managed to swallow it, Ant and Dec told him he had won five stars, and that was his last ever Bushtucker Trial.

Sam said: "I've had the best time, thank you so much!"

    Tony's protective of his goldfish

The campmates must take part in their final Bushtucker trial to win their last meal and celebrate their last night in camp.

Tony is up first in stakeout. He must lie strapped to a giant plate and be covered in meal worms, followed by fish guts, rotten meat, cockroaches and crabs.

Sam told him "Pretend you're Nigel."

    Tony replied: "No way!"

He told Sam: "Shut up laughing, The is not funny."

Tony shouted at Ant and Dec, especially when crabs were dumped on his crotch.

He shouted: "Not the goldfish, you better not bite me goldfish."

And and Dec love his pet name for his manhood.

When Sam tells Tony he is a hero, the boxer shouted: "There is no such thing as a hero that gets eaten alive by creatures!"

But he completes his trial and wins a full five stars.

But afterwards he joked: "The fifth child is off as a yabby has just given me the snip!"

What makes an I'm A Celebrity winner?

Entertainment and TV PR Lynn Carratt has shared the qualities that make an I'm A Celebrity winner in the jungle camp. She told Yahoo News: "Winning I'm a Celebrity is first and foremost about how the personality of each campmate connects with the viewing public. It's a TV programme, so the celeb must be entertaining and a team player.

"A good backstory also helps win the audience over, but most importantly, they have to be relatable to the viewing public. The audience wants to watch someone they could go down to the pub for a drink with. On the show, we see each celebrity warts and all, and any mask they attempt to wear inevitably slips and turns the audience off, so it's vital for them just to be themselves and that will win over the public."
